{Alien Abduction?}

Tuesday mornings are rough for me, because I do laundry on Monday nights and am usually up until at least 1:00am. Yesterday was particularly difficult because I had also been woken up separate times in the night by both Will & Olivia.  When they came to my room at 7:00am, I sent them downstairs to get breakfast with the promise that I would be right behind them.

It took me a little longer than I intended to get going, and s I started down the stairs, I stopped at Olivia's room to turn off her light and noticed her bed was made, an anomaly, for sure. I then checked Will's room, and his bed was made as well!  I ran down the stairs calling out, "Will! Olivia! Where are you? Someone kidnapped you and made your beds!" I rounded the corner into the kitchen, only to find them already dressed, eating breakfast they had made themselves! I again joked, "Aliens! What have you done with my children!? Give them back to me!" We all dissolved into a fit of giggles and endless hugs.

Their surprise, not only made my day, but turned what could have been a stressful and rushed morning into one of our best mornings ever!

{Kiss & Tell}

Tonight, Olivia crawled up on my lap and whispered in my ear, "Mom, today Sophie and her friends chased Will and kissed him! But don't tell Will I told you!"

Shortly thereafter, Will came in the room, and I asked him, "Will, did anything happen at school today that you want to tell me about?"

He turned about 6 shades of red, and knowing his secret was out, said sheepishly, "Sophie and her friends chased me at school and kissed me! I didn't want to tell you because I thought you would be mad."

Of course I wasn't mad! We teased him relentlessly and of course had to get every excruciating detail out of him, but I made sure he knew that he can always tell me anything especially when it comes to girls and he doesn't need to worry about me being mad.

My favorite part of this whole story is that Will wanted to share his secret with his sister! Of course I also love that she immediately came to tell me (she'll have to be a little more sly about that if she wants to continue to be on the receiving end of his secrets!). But it made me so incredibly happy to see their friendship go to a whole new level.

{#1 Sister}

Today while driving to get Will's hair cut, I asked him who he was going to invite to his upcoming birthday party. We are going to a place where they do indoor skydiving and since it's pretty pricey, he has to keep his guest list down to just four friends.  Will rattled off the list of friends he wanted to invite and Olivia got really sad.

"He's not even going to invite me to his party mommy!" she cried, from the backseat.

"Yes I am!" Will exclaimed.  "You're the number one person on my list! I want you to come to my birthday party more than I want anyone else!"

That did the trick. She was happy and I was crying. This was one of those days I just savored the thought that I've done something right as their mommy.

Best Friends

As I was getting ready for work last night, Will ran into my bathroom really excited.

"MOM! Olivia just told me I'm her BEST FRIEND and I said YES!"
"Wow. Does that mean that you guys are Best Friends now?"
"YES!"

Oh my gosh - what more can you ask for? If only they will always be best friends.

Sweet Nothings

I started a very time-consuming & expensive project: file folder activities. I just hope my kids actually will play with them during Sacrament Meeting. If so - they will be worth their weight in gold, which is not far off from their actual cost.

Tonight, I got out some sheets I have to color myself (for the others I opted to print out color copies). Will and Olivia were immediately mesmerized by my coloring and hovered closely. This is a conversation that just took place. So cute!

Will: "Mom, use the blue marker next. Use the blue one, Mom!"
Olivia: "She's going to use that one next, honey."
Will: "Yeah, honey, she'll use the blue one next."
Olivia: "Don't worry honey."
Will: "Wait, I'm not honey, you're honey."
Olivia: "Because you are the boy?"
